Basements are generally used for storage or utility room areas in a home. In order to store important household items in your basement safely, you want the assurance that it will not get wet. By waterproofing your basement, you also reduce the risk of bacteria and structural damage. This is an especially important step if you live in a low lying area where water retention in the ground is a problem.
Window cleaning
Ideally, window cleaning should be performed twice a year to keep your windows looking their best. There are lots of commercial window cleaning products on the market today, but there are several different homemade cleaners that work just as well as their commercial counterparts. Windows should also be cleaned on a cloudy day, as sunlight will dry the cleanser on your windows before the window can be properly polished. To begin, gather your cleaning supplies together. You should have some cleanser (either commercial or homemade), a sponge, a squeegee, toothpaste, cotton swabs or a soft bristled toothbrush, newspaper, and an old cotton t-shirt. Begin cleaning on the exterior side of the window. Remove the exterior window screen (if applicable), and remove the dirt off of the window screen with water. Let the screen air dry. Using a horizontal motion, wash the dirt and grime off of the window from the top of the window to the bottom. For dirt not removed with the sponge alone, use cotton swabs or the soft bristled toothbrush to remove dirt in corners and cracks. Reapply cleanser to the window when the dirt has been removed and polish window with the old cotton t-shirt or newspaper until it shines. Continue on to the interior portion of the window. Using a vertical motion, remove dirt and grime from the window. By using a horizontal motion on the exterior and a vertical motion on the interior of the window, you will be able to see clearly which side the streaks are on. Continue with steps from the exterior of the window until the window is clean and sparkling. If you have small scratches on your windows, use a small amount of toothpast on a cotton cloth to polish out the scratches. Remove the toothpaste with a small amount of window cleanser. Replace the screen to its original position in the exterior of the window, and proceed to your next window.
